Smoking Policy
Smoking is not allowed in the apartment or on the balcony without exception. Anyhow it's bad for your health and your mother probably warned you about it

Pet Policy
Well-behaved dogs or cats are allowed by prior permission and must be looked after. There is no yard adjacent to the apartment, and you are in the center of town (parks and paths to run them are within short walking distance).

Chamonix is very dog friendly and you can take well-behaved dogs into most restaurants and bars in town. There are rubbish bins located every few meters on the main streets. A Chamonix law sets a fine of up to €90 for leaving dog waste on the streets.

National laws for vaccinations must be followed for import of pets into France, but in general traveling with pets over the French border is not a hassle (going back to the UK may be, for example). Check both the French regulations as well as those of your own home country before starting off on your trip.

Parking

Parking is not included with the apartment, but covered garages and other parking does exist (for fee). The nearby covered St Michel Parking Garage is recommended for long-term or high season parking. For example a parking subscription is possible by the week, month or 6 months. Current parking rates are found on the mayor's website (in French) under the catagory of
'Transport' .

Living in downtown Chamonix with easy access to 4 cable car  lifts (and close to buses taking you further up/down the valley) you will find that a car is not needed on a daily basis. We recommend using the free Cham bus service for trips to the cable cars or simply doing the 5-minute walk to the Brevent or Aiguille du Midi lifts from the apartment, and leaving your car parked once in town.

Shopping

Everything you need to accompany your holiday is found in easy walking distance from the flat.

Grocery shopping is literally across the street as well as in several other grocery stores in town (all within easy walking distance). A pharmacy is 2 doors down from the front door for toiletries and prescriptions. Several good bakeries, pastry and chocolate shops are on Rue Paccard and nearby streets. Savoyarde specialty shops for meats, cheeses, wines and liquors abound. Camera stores and photo labs processing both film and digital media are dotted all over town, including on Rue Dr Paccard near the flat.

Many ski and board rental, mountain bike rental and mountain equipment rental stores are located just a few doors down from our apartment on Rue Paccard (Snell Sports, Coquoz Sports, Alpine Land, Zero G        etc..) You can rent crampons, hiking bookts, snow shoes, ice axes, climbing harnesses and all manner of mountain equipment if you do not own this yourself.

Many other stores with clothing, shoes, newspapers (including English, German and other languages), local goods and souvenirs are also literally at your doorstep.
Why Rent from Us?
Unlike other self-catered holiday rentals done through agencies that do not know about the apartments they rent, we are only a phone call away if there is any trouble or question. You are staying in the apartment that was our first home in Chamonix, not just another bland holiday rental unit. We hope you enjoy staying in our flat.

Holiday and Ski Advice

We live in Chamonix year-round so know the area well (we live 5 minutes away in Les Bossons). We can be available to assist you with questions about Chamonix or the surrounding Haute Savoie area, can give advice on how to best plan your trip for skiing, hiking, climbing or other valley activities.

Languages Spoken

Chamonix is a French-speaking town, and has many English-speaking establishments too.

We speak English (natively), French, German and Swiss-German if you need assistance in communicating about a transaction or understanding a guide book, regulation etc.

Rest Days

See our
Chamonix Links page for a long list of things to do and see in the area.

The local
movie  theater is only a few doors down and shows French and some English-language films  (marked as V.O. - en version originale).

There is a video games arcade for older children near the entrance to the Rue du Moulin (near the Irish Coffee cafe and the big clock tower).

For smaller children in high season there are often organized activities. This
web site has a listing of a number of places offering fun and learning activities in child day care centers (crêches) so the adults can have a day or two away from the kids.

There are several places in town that offer relaxing massages, yoga, steam rooms or saunas. Try working out in the Richard Bozon sports complex with indoor pool and water slides, or indoor rock        climbing in nearby Mont Blanc Escalade of Les Houches. Have a spa day at the Thermes of St Gervais Les Bains just down the valley.

The nearby towns of Martigny and Geneva Switzerland, Aosta Italy or Annecy France make nice day trips by car or train and have museums and/or historic castles or Roman ruins to visit.

We are happy to give directions to our favorite spots if you like and an information packet is sent to you upon confirmation of booking.
